A Success Story
MEET RANDY
A 22-year old with a history of brain aneurysm was referred from Rex Hospital to the CCC Case Management program for assistance in finding primary care and other community resources. The CM did an initial home visit and has been working closely with Randy and his family to try to help him manage his post-brain surgery issues.
Since his surgery a year ago, Randy has had severe, chronic headaches and profound anxiety. He did not have a primary care provider, and his issues were not being managed. Randy was taking very high doses of analgesics and thought he needed them to manage his pain. The case manager was able to enroll Randy and his entire family in primary care, and has accompanied him to every clinic visit. Randy is receiving thoughtful and supportive care from the clinic.
The client has been referred to mental health services, and the case manager and therapist work as a team to support Randy. A referral was made to Project Access for assistance with the headaches, and they were able to schedule Randy for an upcoming appointment. Randy has stated this support has resulted in his increasing ability to cope with his issues and improve his relationship with his family. As of today, Randy has cut his pain pill usage in half and is managing his pain and anxiety. e reports being less depressed and less "shaky." Randy's therapist confirms that he is improving. The ultimate goal is to help Randy access community resources so that he may continue to improve and return to school.
Randy and his entire family report that they are more hopeful now than they have been in the past year.
